Feb. 9 Launch Notes: CSVs, pipeline permissions, and favorites

Since last week’s launch, the Bruinen team has been listening to your feedback and are working to ensure the platform provides the best possible experience for modeling your business.

See below for a list of new features that we’ve launched in the last week — have any questions or want to request a feature? Reach out to me at tyler@bruinen.co.

New data source: CSV uploads

While much business data is now stored in databases, data warehouses, and enterprise systems like Salesforce, Excel and other spreadsheet softwares are still used in many day-to-day business functions — collecting survey information, performing ad hoc analyses, modeling financials, and more.

To help make sure that all of your business data can be used to model your ontology, we’ve added an “Uploads” source type that allows you to upload CSVs to Bruinen’s platform and use them in your ontology.

Creating a CSV source only takes a few steps in the Bruinen application — simply navigate to the “Sources” tab, click “New source”, and choose source type “Upload.” The source will initially be empty — to upload a CSV, click on the created source and hit “Options” and “Upload CSV”. You’ll be prompted to choose a file to upload from your machine.

Once added, each upload can be used to create datasets and blueprints, and is able to be used in pipelines in the same way as data from other sources.

We’re currently working on rolling out other CSV-related functionality, including export of pipeline results to CSV for use outside of Bruinen.

Workbook and pipeline improvements

Workbooks and pipelines are Bruinen’s core data transformation and analysis tools. To make them more easily shareable, we’ve overhauled our workbook and pipeline permissions systems to enable granular sharing across your organization:

  • Workbooks and pipelines can now be designated as “private” (visible only to you) or “organization” (shared with the organization)
  • You can now invite individual users to view or edit your private pipelines
  • Existing workbooks and pipelines are now organized into tabs to make them easier to find: “My pipelines”, “Shared with me”, and “Organization”

We’ve also added the ability to favorite pipelines and workbooks for later use. Once favorited, these pipelines/workbooks will show up on your “Favorites” tab for easy access.
